Published since 1937.
Collections of industrial series of the scientific and technical journal Questions of defense technology formed and published on the basis of the Central Order of Lenin Research Institute of Materials, the main editors of the journal at the time was F.A. Kupriyanov, and then - Yu.F. Balandin and V.P. Kuznetsov.
Proceedings were issued in the period from 1946 to 1967, but in some years their release was interrupted (in 1948-1953, 1955, 1960 and 1964). 30 closed and open collections were published.
From 1967 to the 1990s. 174 numbers of the Collection of the 16th series of the Military Enginery have been published, in which up to 2100 articles have been published by more than 4800 authors. About 60% of articles are of general technical nature and about 40% are related to different types of equipment. A depository has been created for articles of profile 16 of the Military Enginery series (about 420 articles have been deposited since 1978).
The issues of the Military Enginery were distributed to enterprises and organizations of various industries according to the lists approved by the Ministry.
The articles of the employees of the Central Order of Lenin of the Research Institute of Materials were systematically also sent to the industry journals «Defense Technology» and «Production Experience». Over the past 10 years, 180 scientific articles have been sent.
In 2003, the journal's issue was resumed. The initiators of the revival of the magazine were the assignee of the USSR Council of People's Commissars established in 1944 and the order of the People's Commissariat of Armament of the USSR «The House of Engineering», «Scientific and Technical Center «Informtekhnika»and the scientific and industrial innovation enterprise of «Special Materials Corp.», which to this day are his founders.
The resumption of the magazine's release coincided with the increased level of terrorist threats both on a Russian and global scale, so the main subject of the journal's articles were applied and fundamental research on the creation of special means for the prevention of terrorist acts. Hence the name of the series appeared - «Counter-terrorism technical devices».
Since the resumption of the journal's publication until 2015, the editor-in-chief was an academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, an academician of the Russian Academy of Russian and Artillery Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, and a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, the Government of the Russian Federation Prize in Science and Technology, and the President of the Russian Federation Prize in Education. Currently, this position is held by Shalkovsky A.G., a Candidate of Technical Sciences and Deputy First Vice-Rector of Saint Petersburg State University.
